The Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Light, established in 1925, stands at the entrance of the Grand River in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Its construction was prompted by the need to replace the former Fairport Harbor Lighthouse, which currently functions as a maritime museum. Serving as a guide for sailors and safeguarding the shoreline, the original Fairport Harbor lighthouse fulfilled its duty for a century before deteriorating.
I chose an unfortunate day to capture images of the historic lighthouse; the middle of April brought gusty winds and temperatures in the 50s, showcasing Ohio’s reliably unpredictable weather.
Despite these conditions, I managed to snap a photos of Lighthouse, a couple having their photos taken by a professional photographer, of coarse from a considerable distance away. With the picturesque dunes as their backdrop and ideal lighting, I trust they obtained stunning shots.
Interestingly, even though it sits 12 miles away, the Perry Nuclear Power Plant was distinctly visible from the lighthouse.
Using a 200-500mm lens certainly provides significant assistance, although its weight feels somewhat burdensome, especially in the cold weather.
