It’s not every day I get to see baby Red Cardinals trying their first flight, but last year, I saw it right in our backyard. Cardinals are pretty protective and cautious.
As I moved to get a better view of the baby, the dad cardinal kept a close eye on me, making sure I didn’t get too close. Luckily, my 200-500mm lens let me stay far away without disturbing them.
Both mom and dad Cardinals took turns watching over the baby, and dad even fed it.

The pictures don’t do justice to how beautiful it was to watch. I hope that little one comes back as an adult someday.
